Duties and Responsibilities: a) Works under the direction of the Director of
Communications or Dispatch Supervisor
b) Works
in conjunction with the ambulance Director of Operations, Supervisor or Crew
Chief
c) Assist
with answering emergency and non-emergency phone calls
d) Coordinate
all ambulance transports and emergencies
e) Must
portray a positive, courteous, professional and helpful image at all times
Salary: $36,300 in May 2012.
Education: According to the U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS), most ambulance dispatchers have at least a high school
diploma (www.bls.gov). Some states have developed or adopted training
guidelines for emergency and ambulance dispatchers to ensure a set of uniform
standards are followed. Programs and courses are offered through community and
technical colleges, state agencies, professional organizations and approved
training facilities.
